Kerrisdale |
 |
Kerrisdale was popularly known as a logging area just after few settlers reside in the area in 1867. The place was logged by no less four times during the early years of the 1800s. But as transportation made its way, with the construction of a railway by the Canadian Pacific Railway, in 1902, then living in Kerrisdale would have been ideal. This was highlighted when the BC Electric Company took over the Vancouver -Lulu Island Railway in 1905. Hence, Kerrisdale was born.
When R.H. Sperling, General Manager of BC Electric, asked a certain Mrs. MacKinnon, one of the earliest residents in the area, to name the train station at Wilson Road, MacKinnon named it Kerrisdale. It was told that MacKinnon chose Kerrisdale after her old family hometown Kerrydale in Gairloch, Scotland.

Ninety-five years after MacKinnon put a tagged on a once log over area in Canada, so many things happened. Kerrisdale became one of the best districts in Canada. Better transportation was introduced to Kerrisdale in 1912.
Today Kerrisdale is a typical residential district in Vancouver . It has a semi-rural setting with many homes developed in a variety of styles. Some 50 priceless mansions are located at Southwest Marine Drive in Kerrisdale. They are listed in the Vancouver s Heritage Inventory.
