Oakridge had maintained its natural state until the Canadian Pacific Railways (CPR) went through it in the early 1950s. With the introduction of CPR, residential and commercial landholdings were started to develop in Oakridge. The first Oakridge shopping center was also built on a 32-acre lot at the village 41 st Cambie.
Construction of residential houses and commercial buildings continued until the 1960s. By this time, schools, hospitals, community centers and home for the aged were built to serve the growing community.
Oakridge is an infantile city compared to its neighbors Kerrisdale and Marpole. However, the city is continually growing to this day and it won t be too long before it catches up with other uptown urban centers in Vancouver .
