Riley Park

Riley Park is an amalgamation of scattered communities that dated back to 1893 when lumberjacks engaged in logging operation on then known as Little Mountain. Residents in the area were mostly quarry workers who mined volcanic rocks for road surfacing.

In 1940, Little Mountain became Queen Elizabeth Park. Twenty years later, in 1960, a pool named Percy Norman Pool opened at Riley Park. In later years, the city began applying the name Riley Park to the surrounding area.

While the city is known for its famous parks, notably, the Queen Elizabeth Park, Recreation Park and Athletic Park, Recreation Park and Athletic Park, the city s Mountain View Cemetery is one of its enduring landmarks.

Built on the crest of the hill south of the city, the Mountain View Cemetery was established in 1886 strategically overlooking the city s downtown area. The cemetery is a mute witness to the city s struggle against the tests of time. The graveyard also nurtured the sagacity of its people and the resting place of most of its illustrious citizens.
