Fraserview s story is as interesting as its growth. In 1892, the small area, later came to be known as Victoria-Fraserview, was officially incorporated into the municipality of South Vancouver .
Victoria-Fraserview remained underdeveloped until the end of WWII when returning veterans suffered shortage of housing. Thus, the government embarked on a massive housing program in South Vancouver which then included Victoria-Fraserview. Thus, some 1,100 new homes were constructed in Victoria-Fraserview that construction extended up to its neighbor Sunset.
Being a rural village of modest homes and scattered farms, residents were not happy of the sudden influx of people into their community. For this reason, the Canadian Mortgage and Housing Corporation expropriated 182 hectares in order to implement the housing project.
Although Victoria-Fraserview s industrial presence is strongly felt along the river s north side, this has declined in the 1980s. The trend prompted the government to convert these once industrial lands into residential districts.
